Dr Tony Baker is a psychiatrist who has developed an interest
in helping young people whose teen years have been affected
by physical and mental health problems during a critical
stage of social and emotional development.

Being well and feeling well are the aims of our recovery programme. Being seen as well, being treated as well - these are the bonuses that
can reinforce the building of a new identity as a well person who can cope with ordinary things again.

We look at the ways we have managed so far; the habits and routines that have become part of our everyday lives; the things we find so hard to give up but which we recognize are harming us in some ways.

We talk about how we find comfort when we are upset and stressed and we learn from each other how we can help others to feel better.

We experiment with ideas, new ways to fix things. We rehearse for the
conversations we need to have in the world outside the safety of the group. The scary stuff. We make plans and promises. We bring back news. We help each other because we all want the same things for ourselves.

We grow in confidence, in our ability to cope, to know how we feel and to express ourselves without harm to ourselves and others. We learn to respect - respect ourselves and others. We learn how to say sorry, how to forgive, how to move on. And be well . . . and cry . . . and laugh.
