disturbance will usually be present and some clients may be taking anti-depressants or other prescribed medication, but never the less are psychologically minded and motivated to explore the psychological aspects of their behaviour with a view to change. Regular attendance in the group is required and clients should expect to remain in the group for at least a year in order to gain significant benefit.

Potential group members can self-refer, or referral can be made through their GP. Following an initial consultation with the group therapist to determine whether group therapy offers an appropriate form of treatment, each member will be offered regular individual sessions prior to taking up their place in the group.

A group can therefore be a particularly productive way of exploring personal difficulties in order to make changes at a fundamental level.

The Psychotherapy Group will meet regularly each week for an hour and a half on Wednesday evenings and will be conducted by Jane McKeown, UKCP Registered Group Analytic Psychotherapist.

The group will be run on analytic lines and will draw on the insights of psychoanalysis and sociology as models for understanding human relationships. Group sessions have no fixed agenda; members
are encouraged to talk about whatever is important to them. Many of the problems encountered by an individual in their personal life and at work have their source not only in the dynamics of the current situation, but also in the groups in which they grew up, including the family, school, and friendship groups.
