Part of The Ashwood Practice Child and Family Services
Family therapy is often useful where people are having difficulty communicating and noticing unhelpful patterns arising, for example rows and arguments that go round and round. We can see individuals, couples or parents and children or just the siblings. Sometimes families are adjusting to changes in the home, like divorce or separation or serious ill health.
Family therapy research shows that conversations between people can lead to a re-writing of their script about each other. Talking about how we experience the same event and the differences between us can create opportunities for change. Parents can be helped to understand their adolescents and vice versa; to become curious about each other, rather than making assumptions based on old stories.
Appointments are available to accommodate the complex lives of modern families.
We can offer appointments from 0830 hours through to 2000 on late opening nights. Most meetings last for one and a half hours and occur at intervals of two to three weeks.
All the therapists who work at the Ashwood Practice are accredited or registered with the relevant professional bodies. Our therapists sometimes work as a pair. For details of our therapists click here.
